Media tips

Here are some questions you can ask the journalist before an interview:

  • How and in what context will statements and information be used?
  • What information has the journalist already gathered?
  • Which topics will be central in the interview?
  • Is background information desired?
  • Can you receive the questions in writing?
  • Where and when will the piece be published? Inform the communication advisor (sharing).

If interview/statement:

  • Request quote checks (before the interview starts)
  • Focus on your own message/project/research
  • If there are questions you don’t have answers to – state that at the present moment you cannot provide further details on the topic/you'll need to get back to the journalist/you're not the right person to address.

Inform your immediate supervisor and communication advisor - this also gives us an opportunity to share in our own channels.
