Procedure for appointing a local radiation protection coordinator
Procedure for appointing a local radiation protection coordinator
Purpose
The purpose of this procedure is to ensure that a local radiation protection coordinator, along with a designated deputy, is appointed for all work involving radiation sources at NTNU, and that a clear definition and description of the role and responsibilities of the local radiation protection coordinator is developed. This is to ensure that the use of radiation sources is conducted in a responsible manner, and in compliance with applicable regulations.
Scope and governance
This procedure applies to all units, employees, and students at units that use radiation sources affiliated with NTNU.
The Guideline for radiation protection and use of radiation sources serves as the governing document for this procedure.
Responsibility
The line manager is responsible for ensuring that this procedure is followed.
The line manager holds the overall responsibility for radiation protection within the unit. The line manager shall carry out the tasks described in the Guideline for radiation protection and use of radiation sources.
Procedure
Appointment of local radiation protection coordinator
The appointment of a local radiation protection coordinator and, if necessary, a deputy local radiation protection coordinator, must be carried out by the line manager. Everyone within the unit shall be informed of who the local radiation protection coordinator and deputy are. The line manager shall notify the central radiation protection coordinator at the HSE Section of the appointed local radiation protection coordinator and deputy for the unit.
Definition of Local Radiation Protection Coordinator
The local radiation protection coordinator represents the line management in matters related to health, safety, and environment (HSE), and therefore cannot simultaneously serve as a safety representative or union representative.
Job description for the Local radiation protection coordinator
When appointing a local radiation protection coordinator, the line manager is responsible for ensuring that a job description is prepared for the individual. Refer to the Guideline for radiation protection and use of radiation sources for an overview of the tasks the local radiation protection coordinator is expected to carry out. These tasks must at a minimum be included in the job description, but additional tasks may be agreed upon between the line manager and the local radiation protection coordinator.
The line manager is responsible for ensuring that the job description is properly archived.
Reporting
If there are any changes regarding the appointed local radiation protection coordinator, the line manager must report the changes to the central radiation protection coordinator at the HSE Section.
