Frequently asked questions
When is the diploma produced?
- Bachelor’s degrees: usually before 1 July.
- Master’s degrees: produced continuously after the appeal deadline has passed.
I haven’t received my diploma – what should I do?
Contact your study adviser. A common reason is that your education plan is not in order.
I lost my paper diploma – can I get a new one?
No. NTNU has a copy of your diploma that we can send you. If we do not have a copy, we can in some cases create a duplicate.
A duplicate is a partial recreation of the diploma and will be stamped “DUPLICATE” in red on every page.
You must document that your diploma is lost (for example, a police report if it was stolen).
In some cases, it is not possible to create a duplicate, for example if your diploma was issued by an institution that no longer exists (e.g., Gjøvik University College, Ålesund University College, Sør-Trøndelag University College). In such cases, you will receive a transcript and a written confirmation from NTNU stating which degree you have completed.
What is Vitnemålsportalen?
A public digital service where you can share completed degrees and passed courses with employers and educational institutions.
Why am I unable to log in to Vitnemålsportalen?
You are unable to use FEIDE login to the Diploma Registry after you have completed your studies. You need to log in through ID-Porten (electronic ID). To get an electronic-ID, you must have a Norwegian social security number or D-number. You can find information about electronic-ID here: https://eid.difi.no/en/id-porten.
You need to order a paper diploma if you cannot access the Diploma Registry with ID-Porten.
I cannot find my results in Vitnemålsportalen – what should I do?
Some older results are not digitally registered. If you cannot find information about your degree in Vitnemålsportalen, you must use the documentation you received when you completed your studies.
Contact your faculty for a copy of your diploma.
Can I get my diploma in English?
The diploma is issued only in the language stated in the study plan.
If you need to dccument your degree in English, then you can use the Diploma Supplement (DS) together with your diploma.
If you need another language, you must use a state-authorised translator.
Can I improve grades after completing my degree?
Yes. Anyone who completes a bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD degree at NTNU can apply for admission to take open courses. If you know that you will receive your diploma soon, and you plan to take exams in courses after the diploma has been issued, it may be wise to apply for admission after completing your degree before you receive the diploma.
See information about course admission rights and application deadlines.
Improved grades will not be added to your diploma, but they will appear in the Diploma Registry (Vitnemålsportalen) and on official transcripts.
Can I postpone the diploma while improving grades?
No. Bachelor students previously had the option to postpone diploma issuance, but this possibility was removed in spring 2025.
