About hand drawings on digital written school exams
It is possible in Inspera Assessment to allow candidates to submit hand-written calculations/sketches/models. If the functionality for hand drawings, InsperaScan, is activated, Inspera generates a seven-digit code for each question. The code is unique for each question and each candidate. The candidates receive special sheets, which they mark with the question code, as well as course code, candidate number and date. After the exam, the submitted sheets are scanned by the Academic Administrative Division, and subsequently uploaded to the candidates’ answers in Inspera Assessment.
InsperaScan can not be activated for specific questions. That means that the candidates can submit hand drawings for all questions and question types.
If you want the candidates to answer all questions on paper, we recommend that you create the question set as a single PDF.
Use drawing tablets
You can use a drawing tablet instead of hand drawings. NTNU has so far acquired around 300 devices - 245 in Trondheim, 30 in Gjøvik and 30 in Ålesund. If this is interesting for your course, either for this or coming terms, contact digitaleksamen@sa.ntnu.no.
Who do you need to inform?
Department administration
If you want the candidates to submit hand drawings on paper, you need to inform the department administration. It is an administrative responsibility to activate this setting on the test.
Candidates
We recommend preparing the candidates for the use of hand drawings, by referring to the wiki articles about digital school exams and school exams with hand drawings. It must also be stated clearly on the cover page of the question set, if hand drawings are possible.
Grading
- Please note that a test can open for grading before all hand drawings are scanned and uploaded. It may take up to a couple of working days until all hand drawings are uploaded. Make sure that all answers are complete before you start the grading process.
- Hand drawings are visible below the rest of the question in Inspera.
- Grading tests with hand drawings is otherwise similar to grading other tests. A user guide for grading in Inspera Assessment is available on the wiki page Grading in Inspera Assessment.
