Absence to attend trade union activities
Absence for you who are a union representative at NTNU and for employees who want to attend a course organized by a trade union.

As a union representative at NTNU, you are entitled to paid leave of absence to perform your duties. This includes, among other things, right to participate in labour union meetings, training initiatives and conferences. You do not automatically get paid time off for all events related to your position of trust. In cases of doubt, the employer and the labour union must decide together whether the event qualifies as time off from work.

Union representative at NTNU
As a union representative at NTNU, you are entitled to paid time off when exercising your duties. This includes absence from work to attend union meetings, training initiatives and conferences.
How to register your absence
Log in to the Self-service portal - Choose English in the upper right corner
Go "Request for absence" and "Create request". Leave type: Select "Basic Public. agr. §38". The form will be received by your manager for approval.
If you are not a union representatives
Employees who do not hold office also have the opportunity to attend organisational courses organised by trade unions. In order to register such an absence, you must first request that this type of absence is made available to you in the Self Service Portal:
- Submit NTNU Hjelp form to change absence quota . Note that the absence is due to activity in a trade union, and that you are not a union representative.
- When you have receive a response in NTNU Hjelp, check that you have the quota "Tj. free off position/org.opdr" available in the Self-service portal.
- Submit a absence request in the Self-service portal. Choose absence «Hovedavt. §39 Tjenestefri».
