Parking rules at NTNU

Rules for parking on NTNU’s campuses in Trondheim from 07.04.2026. Applies to employees, students, and visitors.

Parking enforcement on university property is governed by private law, meaning NTNU determines how parking on university premises is organized. NTNU may add, remove, or modify parking spaces without applying for permission from the traffic authority/Trondheim municipality. Vehicles and trailers parked in the same space for an extended period may be fined or towed.

Complaints about parking fines

  • Contact Trondheim Parkering AS if you wish to appeal a parking fine you have received.
  • Trondheim Parkering AS has two fixed fine levels: NOK 660 and NOK 990, in accordance with the national parking regulations.

Parking prices at NTNU in Trondheim from 07.04.2026

  • Employees and students: NOK 13 per hour. The price requires that a parking agreement is activated in the SmartPark app.
  • Exception – Dragvoll: The price for all vehicle types is NOK 5 per hour for employees and students. This requires activation of a separate Dragvoll parking agreement in the SmartPark app. The same price also applies to Biologisk Stasjon in Trolla.
  • Visitors: NOK 28 per hour.
  • Parking garage in the Adolf Øien building: Employees and students: NOK 28/hour. Visitors: NOK 40/hour. See the user guide for activating the agreement “Autotrekk ansatt/student NTNU”.
  • The same prices apply to electric vehicles.

Charging period

  • Parking fees apply on weekdays between 08:00–16:00.
  • Weekends and public holidays are free.

There are three payment options:

Parking zones

Special parking permit due to health reasons

  • Employees and students at NTNU in Trondheim may apply to use specially designated parking spaces at Gløshaugen and Kalvskinnet for a limited period due to health reasons.
  • This applies to those who do not have a municipal HC parking permit.

Parking enforcement

Trondheim Parkering AS enforces the parking scheme for NTNU. All cars are checked daily. Even if you have activated a parking agreement and paid, you may still receive a fine in the following cases:

  • Parking in areas requiring special permission due to health reasons
  • Parking in visitor-only spaces without paying the full visitor rate of NOK 28/hour
  • Parking in violation of signs or road markings

HC parking

  • Requires an HC permit issued by the municipality
  • May park free of charge in all parking spaces, except motorcycle spaces and electric vehicle charging spaces
  • No parking agreement activation is required in the SmartPark app
  • If you want to use HC spaces in U2 in the Adolf Øien building, contact Trondheim Parkering.

Motorcycle / Scooter parking

  • Free parking in designated motorcycle spaces
  • Parking motorcycles outside marked MC areas is not allowed
  • No parking agreement activation is required in the SmartPark app when using MC spaces
  • MC spaces are only for motorcycles with 2 or 3 wheels

ATV / UTV

  • ATV/UTV vehicles must park in regular paid parking spaces and pay the same fee as a regular car
  • ATV/UTV vehicles cannot park in motorcycle spaces
