Eirik Ringen Hammarstrøm

PhD candidate, Department of Education and Lifelong Learning (IPL)

I am employed as a doctoral student at the Department of Education and Lifelong Learning (IPL) where I am a member of the research group Quality in Education (Qed). My research project is about political processes behind physical learning environments, with particular emphasis on innovative learning environments. I also have PhD required duties as part of my position where I teach students, censor and supervise bachelor students. As a qualified teacher, teaching and being in contact with students is close to my heart.

My goal as a representative for temporary academic positions is to work hard for better information and information flow for temporary employees. As temporary employees, we can be overlooked in various contexts. Feeling safe in your job and knowing your rights are important to me. Therefore, I believe that a representative for temporary employees is very important to let our voices be heard.

I also want to emphasise the importance of the teaching work of academic staff, which often comes second to research. More prestige and commitment from lecturers will benefit both staff and students. My scientific interests are political processes related to education. It's a topic I enjoy and am passionate about, and I hope I get the opportunity to be part of the process as your representative.

Helene Berntsen Svensson

I am currently working on a doctoral thesis on leadership of innovation in the public sector at IPL. The main focus of the work is organizational development, management and governance related to future welfare solutions. I come from a position as an adviser for the chief municipal executive in Trondheim. I believe that being curious both about people, tasks, structures and systems as a representative in the faculty board can support the opportunity to explore democratic processes at NTNU. Building capacity for involvement and democratic participation has always played an important role in my employments – now I want to contribute to explore those perspectives and possibilities for temporarily scientific employees at NTNU.

Charlie F. Thompson

PhD candidate, Department of Sociology and Political Science (ISS)

I am a PhD candidate in Political Science in the Department of Sociology and Political Science. I do research in public policy and administration, and I am standing as a candidate for temporary academic staff in the SU Faculty Council elections. From spring 2022 to autumn 2023 I represented the PhD students in the Social Sciences PhD programme at the SU Faculty. I have also participated in several working groups and have experience from previous board positions.

My main motivation for running is my concern about the economic situation of the Faculty and the consequential reduced autonomy of the departments. The Faculty Board holds an important function as a constructive unit that aims to ensure that the faculty makes good decisions and provide predictability for its departments. The changed conditions of the sector will impact the temporary staff. Therefore, it is important that the Faculty Board safeguards the needs of the temporary staff. I will represent the temporary academic staff to limit the negative impact of the economic situation.

The SU faculty has a good breadth of disciplines. With new conditions surrounding the faculty, it is important that this breadth is maintained and that the different disciplines offer the temporary staff attractive working conditions. I am therefore running to ensure that the activities of the SU Faculty reflect the diverse needs of the different departments, and in particular across the temporary staff - from the needs of the PhD students to post-docs and research assistants.

Åshild Røen

PhD candidate, Department of Psychology (IPS)

I am a PhD-student, with a bachelor's degree in general psychology from the University of Bergen and a master's degree in psychology from the University of Oslo, within the direction of social psychology. My scholarship is related to environmental psychology, and I am a part of the research group "Citizens, environment and safety (CES)" at the department of psychology.

As the PhD-position mirrors, I am really interested in questions and dilemmas regarding the climate crisis and sustainable development, but I am also invested in other topics, such as how to create a best possible environment at the workplace. Being a temporarily employee myself, I have a hands-on feeling and experience of what works great and what can be done better when it comes to the relation and communication between the management/permanent staff and the temporarily staff. My goal is that the temporarily employees should feel preserved and respected, as well as being given sufficient information, both at the beginning, during and at the end of their employment, relevant for their position. With the background I have within the field of psychology – and experience from different universities, I hope and believe that I’ll have some good input and initiatives in the interdisciplinary work towards making the faculty even better.

Ragnhild Roaldsnes

PhD candidate, Department of Psychology (IPS)

I am a ph.d. candidate at the department of psychology (IPS) and is currently researching how we can use neuroimaging markers to understand cognitive and emotional changes after stroke. I have a background in clinical psychology from NTNU and worked with children and families with psychological difficulties before I started researching. I also represent the temporary employees in the Research and ph.d. committee at IPS.

As a representative, I am concerned with ensuring we have good onboarding routines and follow-up of temporary employees, as well as making it easier for employees to access to necessary information needed to work and develop a career in academia. It is important to me that NTNU and the SU faculty are good places to work for both permanent and temporary employees and a good place for students to study. Several of my colleagues have shared their challenges related to work when the language, systems and culture is unfamiliar, and I want to work on maintaining and improving existing routines and systems related to the challenges that are experienced across departments, disciplines, and cultures as a temporary employee. As a recent employee myself, it has at times been challenging to find and familiarize myself with the system of this new workplace and I hope to use these experiences to highlight the strengths and challenges we can improve on a systematic level.

I will contribute an active voice focusing on the rights and care of temporary employees. I hope to make it easier for the temporary employees to give their input and to influence their workplace. Especially for those who could not apply themselves due to the language requirements. I will do my best to listen and speak on your behalf.
