Returning used IT-equipment

NTNU has an agreement with the company Foxway AS for the return of used, discarded, and damaged IT equipment. The equipment is either reused or recycled.

På norsk: Retur av brukt IT-utstyr

Electronic waste is the world's fastest-growing waste stream.

By returning used, discarded and defective IT-equipment, we contribute to ensuring that this is handled in a way that is:

  • Environmentally friendly: Equipment that can be used is reused, while unusable equipment is sent for material recycling. NTNU gains full oversight of how "our" equipment is handled.
  • Economically beneficial: Reimbursement for usable/saleable equipment helps cover administrative costs and provides an income for NTNU.
  • Secure: All data on submitted devices is erased in such a way that it cannot be recovered.

Returning used IT-equipment in Trondheim

At NTNU in Trondheim, it is possible to order cabinets or boxes with or without locks (security cabinets) for the collection of data equipment at the individual units (i.e., faculties, institutes, and departments). Several units can join together for a collective order if you wish to do so.

It is up to the unit to order cabinets and boxes, ensure safe storage of the equipment, and arrange for return. When collecting and storing data equipment with storage capabilities (such as laptops, tablets, mobile phones, etc.), lockable security cabinets/boxes must be ordered.

It is also advisable to appoint an employee who is responsible for ordering the delivery of cabinets, keeping the security cabinets locked, and arranging for collection when they are full.

Ordering cabinets or boxes for the collection of equipment is done directly through Foxway's partner portal. When you log in for the first time, select "Be om tilgang"/"Get access" and fill out the form. You will be asked to provide necessary information in the form, including NTNU's organizational number - which is 974767880.

The equipment placed in return cabinets must be packed securely to prevent damage during transport. Please refer to the supplier's packaging instructions (in Norwegian).
