How does the application portal work?

With the Mobility-Online application portal, you can follow your application process and complete required steps before and during your stay, such as uploading documents to be considered for a grant.

  1. The first step is to create an exchange application. You’ll find the forms here:
  2. After submitting your application, you’ll receive a personal login link which you must use to access the portal. You can check the status of your application, complete necessary steps, withdraw your application, or make changes until the application deadline. All email updates will be sent to your NTNU email address.

Frequently asked questions

This may be due to one of the following reasons:

  • NTNU does not have an exchange agreement with the institution for your subject area.
  • You are not eligible for exchange at that institution – for example, you are a bachelor student and the agreement is for master's students (or vice versa). The portal filters out agreements based on your study programme.
  • The agreement is incorrectly registered in the system. Contact the Unit for International Relations if you believe it should be available for your subject area.

Note: Do not attempt to bypass this by selecting another study programme. This may result in academic and financial consequences, including rejection of your study plan, loss of your exchange placement, or repayment of grant funds.

Answer Yes to the question Are you taking a general study year abroad, or does your study branch into different areas of study? in the portal. You will then be able to select an alternative academic area further down in the form.

Check that your NTNU email address is correct: it must be in the format username@stud.ntnu.no. The address @ntnu.no is for staff only and will not work.

You must click the "Update" button to unlock the fields. Then click "Save changes" to apply your edits.

Some documents can only be uploaded once you’ve reached certain stages in the application process.

  • All applications include a Workflow section called Cancellation Application. If you don’t see it, check under Necessary steps. Note that cancelling the application is final and cannot be undone.
  • Click Cancel your application (1)

  • Confirm that you want to cancel (2) and click Create/Save changes (3)
