The European Union is investing heavily in Covid-19 Research and Innovation. The EC announced the first tranche of funding in January. Please see overview of already funded projects and initiatives.

Eur 1 billion mobilized under Horizon 2020

On 4 May the EC announced additional funding from Horizon 2020 for Covid-19-related research and innovation.

To follow through with its new funding commitments, the EC will amend the Horizon 2020 work programme.

The call focuses on the following areas: 

  • Social and economic impacts of fighting the Coronavirus pandemic and its immediate consequences to contain and mitigate the outbreak. 
  • Pan-European Covid-19 cohorts united against the pandemic. 
  • Manufacturing adaptability and resilience to improve industrial systems response, recovery and preparedness. 
  • Medical technologies, Digital tools and Artificial Intelligence (AI) analytics to improve surveillance and care (CNECT topic).
