MindManager is a software application designed to facilitate the collection, organization, and visualization of information in the form of a “map”—for example, a mind map, organizational chart, or structured compilation of files and web links related to a specific topic. A central theme can be divided into subtopics and branches, each of which may be supplemented with relevant information, including web links, file or folder references, attached documents, notes, and other resources. The software can also be employed for project planning and execution, as well as for various forms of collaborative work.
MindManager is applicable in a wide range of contexts, and projects can be exported into numerous file formats. Maps may be exported—along with their associated links and notes—into, for instance, a Word document or an HTML file. Conversely, text files such as Word documents may be imported into MindManager, where the content is automatically divided into topics based on chapter headings, with the corresponding text incorporated into the notes of the respective topics.
License information
MindManager is available to both employees and students at NTNU under a site license agreement. The software may be used for academic purposes, including teaching and research, but it is not permitted for use in commercial contract research.

- The software is pre-licensed through NTNU, and no individual license key is required.
- Upon initial launch, you may be prompted to log in with your NTNU user account.
🌐 Web-Based Version and Installation at NTNU
MindManager is now offered as a web-based solution. Nevertheless, NTNU maintains a site license that grants access to both the Windows and macOS versions of the software for academic purposes, including teaching and research.
📥 Installation of MindManager:
- For Employees and Students with Managed Hardware (PC/Mac):
- On Windows devices, open the Software Center to install the software. Alternatively, the application may be accessed through Programfarm.
- For Non-Managed Devices
- For devices that are not centrally managed, MindManager can be installed using NTNU’s software download portal.
- Direct Download from the Manufacturer
- The software is also available for Windows and macOS directly from the manufacturer. Alternatively, it can be accessed via the MindManager Product Download Library.
Installation Guide
Download the software from the MindManager product download library.
Complete the installation. Once the installation is finished, click on the MindManager icon and then select the “Sign in” option.
Access requires authentication through NTNU and the use of two-factor authentication when signing in with an employee or student email address.

- Navigate to MindManager Online and select either Sign In or Create Account.

- Use your NTNU email address (e.g., username@ntnu.no) to register.

💡 The account provides access to the web-based version and enables synchronization with the desktop application if you are using both.

- NTNU maintains a site license that provides coverage for both the online and desktop versions of the software.
- It is not necessary to enter a license key manually, as accounts registered with an NTNU email address are automatically associated with the university’s license.
