Where should I save my files?

NTNU provides several solutions for file storage, sharing and collaboration. There are three important factors you must consider when choosing among them.

Think safety first!

Consider whether the information you want to store, process, or share can be classified as sensitive or confidential. Get help selecting a storage option based on whether your data is considered Open, Internal, Confidential, or Strictly Confidential information.

The University requires the use of specific services for certain tasks. These guidelines are based on several factors such as: access management, confidentiality and archival value .

OneDrive

Security:    

OneDrive in Office 365 can be used for open, internal and confidential* information. For confidential information use the AIP encryption feature.

Features: Save personal files and notes with version history. Possible to share and manage access yourself. Synchronize to and from your personal computer, phone and tablet.

Recommended for personal files and notes.

Teams

Security:    

Microsoft Teams in Office 365 can be used for open, internal and confidential* information. For confidential information use the AIP encryption feature.

Features: Collaborate internally and externally. Save, comment, and share files with a revision history and chat. Work simultaneously in documents.

Recommended for storage and interaction in groups, as well as video meetings.

Home Directory M:

Security:    

Your folders in the network storage area referred to as the Home Directory or the M-drive, can be used for open, internal, confidential, and * strictly confidential information. For confidential information use the AIP encryption feature

Features: Personal file storage with automatic backup.

Shared Network T:

Security:    

The shared network directory, referred to as the T-Drive can only be used for open and internal information.

Features: Shared file storage for your faculty, department or group, with automatic backup, administered access management, and the option to manage access to underlying directories yourself.
