Period of notice at NTNU
Different periods of notice apply, depending on the employment duration in both permanent and temporary positions. The notice period runs from date to date, not from the 1st of the following month.
If you wish to resign from your position
If you as an employee want to resign from your position, you have to send your resignation through the Self-Service Portal. See guidance: Resignation (dfo.no). The form goes via the Service Centre before it is received by your manager in the Self-Service Portal.
Note that you should not submit a form for termination in the Self-Service Portal if
- you have an hourly contract or you are a student assistant with a monthly contract (then you notify your unit that sends a case to the Service Center in NTNU Help)
- you are moving to another position internally at NTNU
Read more about notice of termination and dismissals (in Norwegian).
In most cases, temporary employments are terminated on the date given in the employment contract, without prior notice of termination.
Read more about temporary employment (in Norwegian).
Resign parts of a position
If an employee is to reduce their position, the manager or HR at the unit must submit a form to the Service Centre in NTNU Hjelp.
The employee who is to reduce the position permanently will be paid a partial final settlement.

Salary and end date
Salary and end date At NTNU, the annual salary is distributed over all calendar days, including weekends. When an employee's end date is a Friday or Saturday, the last day of salary is set to Sunday. This is so that all employees who work a full workweek will receive their salary for the entire week. The exception is when that Friday or Saturday is the last day of the month.
