Password manager

Password bank is a service for securely storing usernames and passwords, as well as other secrets. This is done locally on NTNU's own infrastructure. You can also share passwords with others using collections.

The service is provided by Bitwarden. You must be logged in to NTNU's network to use the service (wired network, wireless network, and VPN).

Norsk versjon - Passordbank

How can I start using the service?

We have a limited number of licenses for employees. We would like to point out that you should not store private secrets in the service.

To get access to the service, you must submit a form in NTNU Help.

Within an hour or so, you will receive an email that looks like this:

Click Join Organization Now. You will now land on a page that provides the following info:

Fill in New master password. It cannot be your FEIDE/NTNU password. Here you must choose a password that you do not use anywhere else. If you lose the master password, it is not possible to regain access, unless you have given the IT Division access to change the master password (see FAQ). Repeat the password in Confirm new master password. If you wish, you can fill in a Master password hint that can be sent to your email upon request. Click Create account.

Password requirements: 12 characters and a complexity that the computer approves. We recommend at least one capital letter, one lowercase letter, a number, and a character. For help: Good password practice

To gain access to share passwords, you must be confirmed by the Orakel Support Services. This may take up to a day from when you have created an account. When you have gained access, you will see NTNU under My vault on the start page.

Under the Access tab, you can choose who should have access to the collection. This must be a person who has a user in the password manager. Once you have created a collection, you can create a new secret in the collection or move an existing secret under it.
