Learning spaces

The learning space or room that you’re allocated effects the learning activities you can carry out. The right space for your learning activity can enhance the experience and benefits of the activity for both you and your students.

Learning activities and recommended learning spaces

Learning activities and recommended learning spaces

One to many dissemination- for example, lecture.

Recommended learning spaces:

  • Auditorium
    • amphitheatre, permanent furnishings and seating
  • Flat classroom
    • ordinary learning space with flat floor allowing for different furniture and equipment set ups

Characteristics of these learning spaces:

  • Campus-based teaching
  • Recording and video streaming capability (digital/hybrid)
  • May have technology for interactivity
     

Students work in groups or alone, discuss together and with the lecturer. Examples: seminars, workshops, team-based learning and various group work.

Recommended learning spaces:

  • Flat classroom
  • Student-active learning space
    • Specially designed for student activity, greater degree of flexibility, group table layout, technology for interaction (screens/whiteboards)
  • Group rooms
    • Smaller rooms for learning in groups

Characteristics of learning areas:

  • Campus-based
  • Recording and video streaming capability (digital/hybrid)
  • Flexible furnishings
  • Technology for collaboration
     

Learning related to subject-specific skills.

  • Subject-specific spaces:
    • Laboratory
    • Workshop
    • Rehearsal room
    • Computer labs
    • Sports hall
  • Group rooms

  • Specially equipped for specific subjects and activities

Learning space for digital teaching

All three study cities at NTNU also have areas specially adapted to digital teaching. From these, you can both stream directly to students and produce teaching videos or podcasts:

  • self-service recording studios in Trondheim, Gjøvik and Ålesund
  • webinar booths
  • Podcast-box at Dragvoll (Norwegian link)
