Images should have a function

Optimally, images should only be used if they have a purpose, are authentic, and support the meaning of the text.

1. Documentary pictures of real people, situations and places are much more credible that pictures bought through commercial image databases. Decorative images are easily ignored. Show off NTNU's students and employees, where they work and study, the inside and outside of buildings, and the actual products produced.
2. Certain images should be available in large format when they are clicked on. This applies to detalied graphics, pictures of a large group of people, etc.
3. Work on the relationship between the text and images.
4. Images should have an alternate text. This makes them easier to find in the search motor, as well as being helpful to the visually impaired. Not all images need an alternate text; for general illustration pictures, either write 'Illustration' or provide an empty alternate text by leaving two quotation marks in the field.
5. Always credit images! On traditional article pages with images and captions, the credits can be placed under the picture (with the caption). On pages where extra text might by disruptive (such as navigation pages), the photo byline can be added as alternate text.
6. Large images take a long time to load. Photoshop has a simple “Save for web and devices” function that optimalizes images for the web without noticeably reducing the quality.
