Using Inspera Originality in Inspera Assessment

This wiki page describes how Inspera Originality is used in Inspera Assessment, both for administrative staff setting up tests and for graders evaluating submissions.

Norwegian version  – Bruke Inspera Originality i Inspera Assessment

Introduction to Inspera Originality

Inspera Originality is a plagiarism detection service integrated into Inspera Assessment. Inspera Originality compares texts and indicates the degree of, among other things, text similarity between the submitted text and other sources, see the page … for more information.

The service is activated automatically for submission assignments and take-home exams (controlled by the administrative staff), and the reports become available to graders after the submission deadline.

For graders

The plagiarism check in Grading 2.0 provides both graders and administrative staff with an overview of plagiarism risk. This is visible in the Originality Index column in the Candidate Overview menu. There is a distinction between “Low risk”, “Medium risk”, and “High risk”, based on the level of plagiarism risk identified by Inspera Originality.

In the Marking menu, you can open the plagiarism report by clicking the Originality Index tab, illustrated below:

Important: We encourage all graders to review every report manually, regardless of the risk category, as the originality index alone can neither confirm nor rule out plagiarism.

We also encourage you to check NTNU’s guidelines for the use of plagiarism detection [link] before starting your marking work.

Special cases: Requesting Originality reports manually

The plagiarism report is generated automatically, but in some cases, it may still be missing. In such situations, the Originality Index tab will appear as follows:

Click Order report to generate the plagiarism report for the assignment. Processing the text and generating the report could take up to a few minutes.

Supported file types and limitations

The plagiarism check is compatible with the following question types in Inspera Assessment: Essay and File upload.

The plagiarism check results are presented as an Originality Index, indicating the level of risk of lacking originality in a document. The report also includes links to the external sources. Text found in other sources is highlighted in orange.

Please note that separate plagiarism reports are generated for each individual question within a submission. For example, if you have five file upload questions, five separate plagiarism reports will be generated.

Supported file types: .csv, .doc, .docx, .html, .json, .key, .md, .numbers, .odp, .ods, .pages, .pdf, .ppsx, .ppt, .ps, .rtf, .txt, .wpd, .xls, .xlsx, .xml.
