Applying for Housing

You can apply for temporary and short- term housing via the application form in Lydia. The link to the application form and information about the application process can be found here: NTNU housing for international researchers and phds.

How to Apply:

  1. Fill out the application form: Make sure to complete all the required fields in the application form.
  2. Click "Save and Send": Once you have filled out the form, click "Lagre og send" to submit the application electronically to the department for verification. You will receive a confirmation receipt at the email address you provided in the application.
  • Verification and further processing: The department will verify your application and then forward it to the Housing Service at NTNU for processing.
  • Processing Time: The normal processing time is 4 weeks.

The application form provides applicants with a desired residence in Trondheim access to housing from NTNU Housing, Boligstiftelsen NTNU and SINTEF, and services from Utleiemegleren Trondheim (minimum 12-month rental period). Housing is allocated on an ongoing basis according to availability and NTNU`s Housing Policy.

Housing Service

The Housing Service mediates housing that NTNU has for rent, as well as housing owned by the Boligstiftelsen NTNU and SINTEF. However, it is rare that there are vacant homes here, and therefore a cooperation agreement has been entered into with Utleiemegleren Trondheim.

Utleiemegleren Trondheim's Services for Tenants:

  • Housing Database: You can find housing in Utleiemegleren Trondheim's extensive housing database. If you find a home here, you do not have to pay a fee.
  • Professional Handling: Utleiemegleren offers professional handling of the entire rental process, including contract signing, follow-up during the rental period, and termination of the rental agreement.
  • English Communication: Utleiemegleren communicates in English and offers rental contracts in English, which is especially useful for international employees.
  • Fees: If Utleiemegleren finds housing for you with other landlords, you must pay a fee according to current rates.

For more information and to see available housing, you can visit Utleiemegleren's website: Advertisements for homes for rent or wanted to rent (in Norwegian).

Important Information for Employees in Gjøvik and Ålesund

Please note that the housing offer for new employees in Gjøvik and Ålesund is not as extensive as in Trondheim. We therefore recommend that employees at these campuses contact the Housing Service or their department as early as possible to get the best possible assistance.
