One of the purposes of NTNU’s Governance document for security and emergency preparedness is to help prevent, detect, and counteract security-threatening activity. The Security Act, which NTNU is subject to, requires measures to be taken in response to such activity as well as in cases of deviations.

Handling such incidents has common characteristics, regardless of how the incident unfolds and regardless of whether the actions themselves are intentional or unintentional. All reports help maintain an up to date security picture at NTNU. Good situational awareness is necessary for NTNU to meet future security challenges with precise security measures. NTNU depends on individuals reporting security threatening activity and security related deviations to the Section for Security and Emergency Preparedness. Your report may be crucial for NTNU’s value creation and reputation.

Reporting security threatening activity and/or security deviations

Have you ever experienced a situation or observed something that gave you a bad gut feeling, and that you believe NTNU’s security environment should be informed about?

If so, we want you to notify NTNU’s security organization by reporting it to the Section for Security and Emergency Preparedness. We want you to report the following:

• Security threatening activity – intentional actions that directly or indirectly may harm NTNU’s assets. This may include any activity that could expose assets to threats such as espionage, sabotage, or terrorism.
• Security deviations – unintentional actions by employees/students or malfunctions in existing security measures. Lack of compliance with the Security Act or with NTNU’s security management system.
• Export control/international sanctions deviations – unintentional or intentional actions by employees/students that result in non-compliance with export control regulations or international sanctions.

There should be a low threshold for reporting. If you are unsure whether you should report, you should report. The security organization can assist in handling the incident if it is serious.
