NTNU is switching its learning platform from Blackboard to Canvas.

As of 1 October 2026, you will no longer have access to Blackboard. This means that you are responsible for saving any content you wish to keep from Blackboard before this date.

What does this mean for you?

When Blackboard shuts down, all content – such as course rooms, files, submissions, discussions, and feedback – will become unavailable.
NTNU will store all content for archival purposes, but it will not be accessible to individual users.
There are no requirements for students to preserve content, but consider carefully what you may need.

Things you may want to consider:

• Downloading course materials (lecture notes, assignments, etc.)
• Keeping copies of your own submissions and feedback from instructors
• Saving any information you may need for future studies, job applications, or personal documentation

How to download content from Blackboard

1. Log in to Blackboard as usual.
2. Open each course room you want to retrieve content from.

Download files by:

1. Clicking on file names to save them locally on your computer.
2. Right-clicking and choosing “Save as…” where possible.

For your own submissions:

1. Go to Grades in the global menu.
2. Open the submission and download the file you submitted, along with any feedback.
3. Repeat for all courses whose content you want to keep.

Tip: Create a dedicated folder on your computer, e.g., Blackboard Archive, and store everything there. You can also save a backup in OneDrive or another cloud service.

Important dates:

• Now: Start downloading any content you want to keep
• Spring 2026: Last semester with teaching in Blackboard
• 1 October 2026: Blackboard shuts down – all access is removed

After 1 October 2026, it will no longer be possible to retrieve content.
