Purpose

The Executive Committee for Engineering Education (FUS) is organized under Rector. The Committee is to manage inter-faculty coordination and develop common quality requirements for the Master of Science in Engineering programmes. The Committee is to identify strategic challenges and advise Rector in strategic issues.

Delegated authority

Approve curricula (including establishment/closure of courses, programme options and main profiles) as well as the learning outcomes for engineering education based on proposals from the faculties.

Tasks concerning Rector

• Take the initiative in matters related to engineering education
• Advise on institutional cooperation and alliance building
• Provide recommendations on the structure of the education
• Advise on the establishment and closure of programmes
• In cooperation with the faculties, propose the size and admission framework for each programme of study
• Propose statements on behalf of NTNU in response to hearings related to engineering education
• Prepare matters that are to be decided by Rector
• Report decisions to Rector that have been made in accordance with the Committee’s delegated authority

Matters concerning engineering education that are relevant for other programmes of study and are important for the development of NTNU's strategy and education policy are to be submitted to the University Education Committee.

General

• In cooperation with the faculties and the local programme councils, ensure that NTNU's quality initiatives are followed up in the programmes of study
• Monitor achievement of learning outcomes
• Prepare an annual report on the programmes of study at NTNU with emphasis on quality improvement measures
• Actively promote equal opportunities in the programmes of study
• Ensure that NTNU is represented in relevant national and international forums

Composition

FUS is headed by a committee chair who is appointed by Rector for four years. Faculties that offer programmes in engineering education are to have one member each. That member is to be from the faculty management. Students are to have two representatives.

Rector appoints the members of the Committee. The Head of the Student and Academic Division has secretarial responsibility for FUS.
